Our Scott Reid Memorial Scholarship is offered in partnership with MinterEllison Gold Coast. It honours the memory of Scott Reid, Partner of MinterEllison Gold Coast, who was a brilliant leader, mentor, lawyer and family man, who approached both his professional and personal life with great humility, empathy and good humour. Scott also devoted much of his life to the development of AFL in Papua New Guinea, which now has more than 2.5 million people who have played the game and participates in international AFL tournaments in Australia.
The Scott Reid Memorial Scholarship rewards a Papua New Guinean student applying for Law who meets the selection criteria:
- Demonstrated capacity for leadership, initiative and service to your community
- Epitomise Scott’s approach to life – ‘Laugh a lot, stand strong and keep it all in perspective’
- Seeks to use your law degree to make a difference.
The scholarship includes a one-month paid law clerkship annually (up to a maximum of 4 years), providing practical experience, progressive skills growth and mentorship.
Level of study: Bachelor of Laws (Hons), Bachelor of Laws (Hons)/double degree or Juris Doctor
Aim and Benefits
Award value: $5,000 and annual four-week paid law clerkship for two trimesters of study plus clerkship
Requirements
To be eligible you must:
- Be a citizen of Papua New Guinea or demonstrate affinity with the Papua New Guinea community. In the event of there being no such applicant, applicants of Pacific Islands heritage or affinity will be considered.
- Have applied to study an eligible law program at Griffith’s Gold Coast campus by the scholarship application closing date.
- Satisfy all academic and English language entry requirements for the Bachelor of Laws (Hons), Bachelor of Laws (Hons)/double degree or Juris Doctor program.
- Be a full-time student starting in Trimester 1 2025.

Follow these steps to apply and we will let you know if you have been successful.
- Apply to study an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate coursework law program at Griffith University.
- Apply for the scholarship by the closing date. You will need to include academic records and a personal statement that outlines your merit for the scholarship based on three selection criteria.
- A scholarship assessment panel will review your application.
- Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview, either in-person or via video conference.
- We will let you know the outcome of your application.
