Full-time Java Software Engineer (BE-CSS-CPA-2024-114-GRAP) Call for Application in Geneva Switzerland

Are you a passionate Software Engineer? Do you want to help making the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the other CERN accelerators even more efficient? Then you should join our team to work on UCAP, a platform that acquires, analyses and transforms massive streams of online controls data. UCAP enables physicists, equipment specialists, and the 24/7 operations teams to optimize and automate controls procedures, using both traditional and AI-driven methods. Watch the video in this blog post to see our LHC operations colleagues explain some of these procedures.

Take Part!

You will join:
• The Beams department (BE), responsible for the beam generation, acceleration, diagnostics, controls and performance optimization for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its injector accelerators.
• The Controls Software and Services (CSS) group, which provides solutions for the control and monitoring of all the CERN particle accelerators, their transfer lines, associated experimental areas and various supporting technical infrastructure services.
• The Communication, Processing and Archival (CPA) section, which delivers critical software services and frameworks related to communication, data processing, and archival of large quantities of accelerator device data.

You will be part of a passionate team of experienced software engineers, and take an important role in the development, evolution and operation of the Unified Controls Acquisition and Processing Framework (UCAP) platform.

By joining the team, you will be involved in all aspects of the software life cycle, including user requirements gathering, design, development, testing, maintainance and operations, following our Agile development process.   • Shape and contribute to the development and evolution of our software systems and frameworks for communication and data processing;
  • Participate in the complete software development lifecycle (requirements, design, development, testing), following a modern agile approach;
  • Interact with our stakeholders, operators, physicists, and equipment specialists to understand their needs and help translate these into appropriate software solutions;
  • Collaborate and share knowledge and solutions with highly skilled software engineers both inside the CSS group and across the Accelerators & Technology Sector.
