City University of London Change Makers Program in Journalism 2024

Change Makers is a philanthropically funded programme providing scholarships and bursaries to UK-based students with home fee status from underrepresented backgrounds who want to study either the MA Podcasting or MA Broadcast Journalism course.

There are two awards available for the 2024/25 academic year:

  1. The Spotify Podcast Scholarship 
  2. The Goalhanger Podcasts Bursary.

Aim and Benefits 

Funded by the Spotify Creator Equity Fund which was set up to promote diversity and inclusivity for artists and creators.

The scholarship of £25,000 will cover full tuition fees and living costs for one student who meets the criteria.


  • Hold an unconditional offer for the MA Podcasting at City, University of London for the 2024/25 academic year
  • Come from an underrepresented community (this includes but is not limited to: race, ethnicity, physical ability and socio-economic status)
  • Be able to demonstrate financial need through production of a case for support
  • Available to UK-based students with home fee status.

How to Apply

Applicants will be assessed based on the above criteria for each award. Please note each successful applicant will only be eligible to receive one award.

Please submit a 600-word essay outlining your financial situation and why you wish to pursue a career in podcasting.

The successful applicant will be notified by Monday 15 July 2024.

Other information

  • The name of the award recipient will be shared with the donor.
  • The recipient will be required to submit a one page report at the end of the academic year which will be sent to the donor.
  • The recipient may be asked to provide a testimonial on the impact the award has made.
